Who's Clayton??

This week at the Golden Bough we had a benefit concert for the beautiful Camila on Monday and Tuesday night. There was music, friends, wine, auctions, dancing and laughter. It was an amazing experience. One of the acts that performed were two friends of Camila that she knows from Cal State Fullerton... they are in a band called "Who's Clayton"... little did I know what these boys had in store for us... they were brilliant..

"look at you reaching for the stars.." -stephen moorer

Recently blogging has been a thing that happens rarely, when I can find time and when I'm not trying to catch up on rest... but it's all for good reason. I have been working everyday, promotions are great, attending a two night benefit concert for a sweet friend (more on that later) and doing a show every Thursday-Sunday night.. it's called SPAMALOT and let me tell you, you want to see it!
This show has been a blessed experience. I have been able to work with some of the most talented, genuine people I have every encountered and I feel so very lucky to be a part of this cast. There have been articles, commercials and talk around the towns of this show and I have to say, if you haven't seen you, you want to. We have all worked so hard and it shows in the product. I can't wait to work on my next project..... Legally Blonde, here I come.. ;)

Wake you up in the middle of the night...

that is all.

Thoughts..

Sometimes I like to think my soul looks a little like this.
When I take naps, no matter what time it is, I change back into my pj's.
I'm a whiskey and beer drinking kinda gal.
One day, I want to marry my best friend.
I want my job to require me to wear a rehearsal skirt and character shoes everyday to the "office."
Without music.... or theatre..... or dance.... I don't know who I'd be.
Michael Buble. Andy Grammer. Jason Aldean. (3 men that can always make my day better).
I can't watch Titanic with anyone other than Maegan.
If I could have 4 tattoos I would.
I watch a lot of TLC.
I'm younger in my head than I am in real-life.
I want to adventure, to see things, to experience things, to learn things.

something magical.

As much as "Titanic" is considered a super chick-flick, it has also become one of the most classic love stories of our generation. I love this movie; Maegan and I went and saw it in 3D when it was re-released and it was a life-changing experience. This is seriously a brilliant film. James Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are are all timeless.

Another thing in my life that has grown to really inspire my heart is dance. Dance has been a huge part of my life and because of that... I love the show "So You Think You Can Dance," that show has brought me to tears and made my heart smile so hard over the routines that have been created on this show.
I stumbled across this piece and it blew me away.
It is a piece where the love story from the "Titanic" is danced to the song by the Righteous Brothers, "Unchained Melody."
The things that happen in this piece are something magical. The passion that pours out in the movement and through the music is unreal. The emotions that are personified in this piece are like something out of a perfect dream. This is way too brilliant; Travis Wall (the choreographer) is an insanely talented man.
Do yourself a favor and watch this!

expectations.

Dancing has always been something that has really struck a chord with me.
Since dance has been a part of my life since I was 3-years-old, and since I've been able to utilize my history of ballet to grow my passion for musical theatre, dance is something that really resonates with me. (No but really, I swear, sometimes I can actually feel it vibrate through my body).
Because of this, contemporary dance and lyrical hip-hop pieces have had the chance to move me to tears multiple times via "So You Think You Can Dance..." and because of this I have developed a heart for these dance styles.
With that being said,
the video above is of a "flash mob" style marriage proposal that was done at Downtown Disney,
and I don't know what it is, but the song, "Marry You" by Bruno Mars, paired with the dance moves and the overall emotion of this video make me so incredibly happy. I love this so much.

a feel good sound

"Hush, now, let's go quiet to the park, where it first started. Cold night, us lying in the dark, I felt my heart was trying to find a place for you to stay, a place where I'd feel safe. Anything we have know, anything we've forgotten, in the rain, in the dark we'll lay. In your arms, in your arms I'll stay."
Kina Grannis is an artist my roommate introduced me to this week. I haven't explored too much of her work, but from what I can tell, she is brilliant. This amazing young lady made her way into the music world via youtube! I absolutely adore the feel of her music and love even more how she sounds exactly the same live as she does in studio. Check her out! This girl is going to be give Colbie Caillat a run for money.

Born This Way?

Lady Gaga is a brilliant singer/song writer.

She is also very eccentric. She always has insane (intense and also very strange) live performances, and extreme clothing/costumes. As I was watching some live performances and music videos of Lady Gaga today, I began to wonder... do you think everything she does, or at least some of it are meant to be metaphors for things?... or is she just weird?.. Leave your comments and tell me what you think.

My summer.. and Country music..

So I know that I already posted about my Summer Songs... but as I sit here drinking my coffee and have Country Music video's playing in the background, and as I think about my summer soon coming to an end, I am coming to realize how much of an impact Country music had on my summer. No, i'm not saying that the music changed the events that occured, or made any events magically happen, but what it did do was join me every day of this summer and because of that, there are so many songs that as soon as I hear them, I think about this summer, being home and spending time with Thomas.

When I hear songs like "Just a Kiss," "Are you gunna kiss me or not," "Don't you wanna stay," "Crazy Girl," "Dirt Road Anthem," "Huntin the World," "Barefoot blue jean night," "Made in America," "Way out here," "Voices," "Remind Me," "Austin"... and sooo soo many others, I am instantly brought back "home," or to Thomas' house.. and I don't ever want to leave.

This summer has been so much more than I could have imagined. So many things have happened, so many things have changed. To be completley forward, my life was changed. I "met" a man that I never new existed... I mean, of course I knew he existed, I've known him for what, 6 years now?.. But I had no idea who he really was. I've never been happier. Going back to school is going to be really hard.. but with frequent home visits, modern technology and Country music I think i'll be ok.

Summer Songs!

I got this idea from Amanda Noel.

Country music has been a huge thing in my life since I was about 14, but this summer, being that I don't have a broadway musical soundtrack to be memorizing, it has been a huge contributor to my summer! Here are some songs that could define my life lately...

"Dirt Road Anthem" by Jason Aldean (who, by the way, I get to see in concert tonight!)

and soooo sooo many more!

ps.. I am beyond excited for this concert tonight! Will report back later = ]

Britney.

Lately Maegan and I have been reliving our "youth" (more like late elementary/middle school years) by listening to lots of *NSYNC, Britney Spears and the occassional Backstreet Boys tune. We have been having discussions about just how big Britney really was... and how badly, when you were that age, you wanted to BE her!

You wanted her hair! Her clothes! Her dance moves.. and of course, her boyfriend! (who was Justin Timberlake at the time). She was an icon, and she still is! Princess of POP!

We even watched "Crossroads" the other day... boy did that movie want to make you want to run away on a roadtrip with your friends.

Britney has recently made, yet another, comeback and although her music has had to evolve with the times, she is still Britney.

This music just never gets old.

I'm Proud to Be..

a Country Music fan!

This genre is so genuine and perfect.

I've been sitting here since I got home listening to

Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban

and so many others!

These men also joined me on my entire ride home yesterday.

Bliss.

"Beauty and the Beast.... of Burden"

This is going to be a LONG blog, so be warned.
Yesterday (day) was horrible.
I went over to the DZ house to hang with my little and have our usual Wednesday morning coffee date and left in tears. It's a long story so I'm not going to go into it.
Putting that aside,
I have officially decided that yesterday didn't start until 4 pm.

So on Friday Gail (an amazing, smart and pretty girl)
asked Maegan and I if we wanted to go see "Beauty and the Beast" at the Pantages for the student price ticket of $30, an opportunity that I could NOT refuse.

We got all pretty dresses up and left for our adventure in Hollywood (which I'm usually not to fond of) around 4:30. Gail and Natalie (another very smart and pretty girl)
picked me up, and we were off!

After we got our amazingly discounted student price tickets, we had time to go get dinner before the show started. So we started driving around trying to figure out where we wanted to eat.
We ended up at an amazing little hipster-like cafe called "Urth Caffe," it may be one of my new favorite places. I want to go there with a book and sit there, drink their amazing coffee and read for hours and hours and just enjoy the atmosphere.

I had a brilliant mocha mint drink.
(You'd think they would just call it a mint mocha, but I guess a mocha mint is more unique).
It was delicious!

For dinner I ordered a chicken and cheese quesadilla and it was verrrrry yummy!
It didn't go very well with my coffee, but I figured if I wanted the coffee with my dinner than I was just going to have to deal with the fact that coffee and a quesadilla aren't a normal thing you usually eat together.

Such a YUMMY drink!
I swear it was Christmas in a cup!
It doesn't get much better than that! (March or not).

After our brilliant dinner we went back to the Pantages where we prepared ourselves for the show we were about to enter...
Which, with the show we knew we were seeing, with all of its "Disney Magic" there was no way we could really be prepared for all it had to offer.

The amazing women that occompanied me on this adventure!
(left to right: Maegan, me, Gail and Natalie. Melody was taking the picture)
With everything that's been going on in my life lately I feel like I should write a blog especially for them. These women are always there for me, always so positive and encouraging and they are all my sisters in my sorority (both alumna and active).

I took pictures of EVERYTHING, I was so excited.
The show was amazing. The costumes were PERFECT, the sets were beautiful, the set changes were seamless and the actors were breathtaking. The music and the dancing was brilliant! I loved all of. Watching these shows always makes me want to go audition (or figure out how to) because I KNOW that I could do it.

Now, aside from the fact that this show was amazing, and it was only my second professional show i've seen... the highlight of my night came at intermission.
After running to the bathroom the second the lights came on, I sat back in my seat waiting for the show to start. I saw someone walking down the isle with a girl, back to his seat, that looked really familiar to me. I SWORE that it was Lee Dewyze (the current American Idol winner)...
So I told Gail to walk down to look at the pit with me, so we walked down there. As I got closer, I KNEW that was him.

So I'm standing 2 feet away from him thinking to myself, "I HAVE to talk to him.. I'm going to be so angry if I know that's him and I don't.." (side note: Lee Dewyze is a BIG deal to me! He was my favorite all season and I have been talking about meeting him ever since).

Ok. So I walk up to him and here's how it went from there...
Me: Are you Lee Dewyze?
Lee: Ya I am.
M: Oh my gosh! I'm Corinne, I'm a huge fan.
L: I'm Lee nice to meet you! and this is my girlfriend.
M: I'm a huge fan, I watched you on American Idol
(babble babble babble)
I know i'm not supposed to, but can I take a picture with you?
L: Ya! Totally!
(picture being taken..I was shaking)
L: You don't have to be nervous, its ok!
M: it's coming out really dark cuz I can't use a flash..
L: Well track me down after and we'll take another one. I'm gunna be on American Idol tomorrow you should check it out!
M: Oh ya! I definitely will.
L: Do you want a hug?
M: YES!
(hug)
L: Are you really a fan?
M: I'm a HUGE fan!
L: well here (reaching in pocket) it's the only one I have on me but you can have it!
(handing me a guitar pick)!!!!
M: Oh my gosh! Thank you!
L: ya! it was nice meeting you!!

I went back to my seat and I was FREAKING out!
Now Maegan had seen me talking to someone... so when I got back to my seat she asked me, "Who were you talking to?" and I said, "Hang on! I have to sit down." (I sat down). So then Maegan was like, "Who was that??!!" and I told her, "MAEGAN! THAT WAS LEE DEWYZE!!"
Then we proceeded to have a freak out-star struck-girly moment!
(The pick!!)

After the show ended (I cried), we walked out and waited for Lee to come out. (Maegan's wish during dinner was to meet a famous person in Hollywood). So she told me, "He's right behind you!!" So I walked up to him, tapped him on the shoulder and asked if we could take another picture with him. He agreed. Maegan was freaking out! As we went to leave he looked at me and said, "Corinne, right?" (and I died a little inside), "Yes!" "And Maegan?" "Yeah." As we left he said, "It was really nice to meet you Corinne, have a good night!"
Mission Accomplished.

Best. Night. Ever.
And as we left the parking lot, we listened to "Beast of Burden,"
and all I could think about was how I just met the man behind that AMAZING voice.

Elvis!

Today I bought a 4 pack of Elvis movies for $10 at Target.
It has "Live a Little, Love a Little," "Kissin' Cousins," "Tickle Me," and "Girl Happy."
Now "Girl Happy" is one of my FAVORITE Elvis movies.
I used to watch it all the time when I was little.
I'm watching it now and there's a lot of parts of the movie that I don't really remember
but boy do I remember that voice.
Elvis is so stinkin' attractive and his voice just makes me want to melt.

I have always loved Elvis, ever since I was 5 and I found out who he was!
I used to always listen to his music on cassette tapes in my dad's car.
Now I listen to his stuff in MY car on my ipod.
He was my first love. No joke. He's brilliant and beautiful.

Day 10

:songs you listen to when you are happy, sad, bored, hyped, mad

ooooh boy.. this one is going to be difficult.. I have no idea how i will be able to narrow this down at all, but i'll try!

Songs I listen to when I'm happy: "Elephant Gun," or "Postcards from Italy," by Beirut, the "Across the Universe" soundtrack, and "Beatles" songs in general, "Felt Good on my Lips" by Tim McGraw, "Quitter" by Carrie Underwood, "Holy is the Lord" by Chris Tomlin, lots of showtunes, "These are my People" by Rodney Atkins.. I could go on, and on, and on.... =]]

When I'm sad: certain "Elvis" songs (ie: "It Hurts Me"), "A Little bit Stronger" by Sara Evens, "I'm already there" by Lonestar, "Here Comes Goodbye" by Rascal Flatts..

When I'm bored: When I'm bored or want to change things up a bit, I would put my ipod on shuffle just to see what comes up!

Hyped: when I'm hyped I love listening to my upbeat, feel good, country! A little Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood will never do you wrong.

Mad: hmmm.... I think mad often goes along with sad.... but I can't really think of specific songs or artist I am drawn to when i'm mad....

Music is my life. I could never pick just a few songs to represent a mood i'm in... but I also know that music can always change my mood and I know that for me, Country music can always make everything better, and my Beatles and Beirut will never let me down! = ]
